“Misty Morning” is a wonderfully pensive original painting by Polley Tobin. In the foreground of the piece, with careful brushstrokes of oil paint on canvas board, Tobin creates a dark silhouette of a boat brooding on the water by the dock, casting its shadow onto the reflective surface below. Further into the distance, seagulls float gracefully against the background of pale sky, billowing clouds, and a diminutive lighthouse on a faint shoreline. The piece is placid yet thoughtful, with its almost grey-scale monochromatic blues and heavy contrast; composing an evocative image of a misty morning on the water somewhere in Falmouth, Massachusetts. The piece is signed on the front of the painting, and titled and signed on the back of its frame.
