This selection of prints comes from the larger work of John James Audubon, a renowned ornithologist, who had a portfolio of hand-colored life-size paintings featuring 435 unique American birds. Originally watercolor studies, they were turned into color aquatint engravings by Robert Havell Jr. for mass-production purposes when Audubon published them in his book, Birds of America. These four gorgeous ornithological illustrations (of the Mallard Duck, Meadow Lark, White-crowned Sparrow, and the Ivory-billed Woodpecker) are printed on 8.5" x 11.5" glossy finish paper stock, highlighting the richly saturated colors and clean detail work.
